Because of Camp...Briana's Story

Truth is, we’re all weird in our own way and I wouldn’t be as comfortable with who I am without my summer home.

Growing up, I was always very shy and reserved, especially around new faces. I never truly felt confident in who I was or what I had to offer, and hid who I was from a lot of people. Whenever I thought about opening up or trying new things, I wondered, “What if I do or say something that will make them not like me?”

Inside this little bubble I kept myself in, I was a goofy, bubbly, and enthusiastic kid, but I kept it to myself and instead seemed quiet, uninterested, and afraid. When I first started coming to camp, it was strange to see how fast that bubble was broken. In minutes, I found myself laughing, making friends, and singing along to every song that was sung.

To say the least, camp showed me that it’s okay to be who you are, no matter how goofy or quirky you may be. Truth is, we’re all weird in our own way and I wouldn’t be as comfortable with who I am without my summer home. Now that I am part of the staff that I looked up to as a kid, I strive to show campers like myself that who they are is the best person they can be!
