Because of Camp...Nick's Story

"I am excited to make more wonderful memories and shared learning experiences for myself, and more importantly, every camper..."

Little-nick.jpgIt must be said that I owe so much of who I am today to my experiences at camp and what I learned as both a camper and counselor at Talooli. In fact, if it were not for the love and compassion fostered in me at Camp Talooli, I would not be choosing to spend my life as a special education educator.  Nor would I be so enthusiastically working towards this career, finding that my time at camp has given me a great skill advantage in working with those who have special needs.  My time at camp has taught me to work hard, accept those who are different than myself, and compassionately aid those in need.

As a camper at Camp Talooli, I found role models that I may have otherwise not had if I had not attended camp.  Specifically, I looked up to Nature Rob, the former nature director, and Wild Mark, the former challenge course director and current CIT director.  To this day, both of these men are greatly influential in my life, even outside of camp. I am so proud to call them both my mentors and more importantly, my friends.

As I write this today, I am anxiously awaiting and preparing for another summer to begin with my campers and co-counselors.  I am excited to make more wonderful memories and shared learning experiences for myself, and more importantly, every camper – just as the counselors before me did for me as a Camp Talooli camper!
