Because of Camp...Abigail's Story
Camp has changed my life in so many ways, but most of all it allowed me to be myself.
When I came to camp as a shy seven year old, I really had no idea what to expect. But, by the end of the week I had made new friends and had become completely spellbound by Camp Talooli. I’ve come back every year and now I’m a CIT 2, excited for next year and hoping to work on staff one day.
I want to change children’s lives the way the counselors and directors here have changed mine, as well as every other child who has been here. Camp has made me more outgoing and it makes me appreciate the little things; a cool breeze on a hot day, the sound of rain on a cabin roof, a rare glimpse of a great blue heron, or Sammy the water snake. Most of all, camp made me unafraid to speak my mind, and because of this, I have found friends that are true. These people know who I am, like what I like, and don’t care what others say is “cool.”
Camp has changed my life in so many ways, but most of all it allowed me to be myself. And that is something that I’ll always be grateful for.
