Meet the Staff - Lauren
Meet the Staff 2014!
Camp Talooli has one of the greatest summer staffs around. With nearly 80% of our staff returning each year, our staff members are incredibly skilled, innovative, and enthusiastic about sharing their love of summer camp with Talooli campers. This is a way for us to share just how special each of our counselors, program staff, and leaders are.
Position at Camp this summer:
How many years have you been coming to Camp Talooli?
6 years! Before becoming a day/overnight counselor, Lauren particiated and graduated from our CIT program.
What is the funniest thing a camper has ever said to you?
One of my favorite questions to ask the younger campers is, "How old do you think I am?" I always get outrageous answers, anywhere from 10-75.
What is your favorite theme week at Camp Talooli?
I've always been a big fan of Pirate Week. Campers get extremely enthusiastic about having the "best" flag and are always proud to flaunt their team's color! It's a week that really seems to captivate kids and they all get so excited. I love playing into that enthusiasm!
What type of career are you currently pursuing?
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in sociology/psychology with intention to attend graduate school for a Master's Degree in Social Work.
What are you most looking forward to about this summer?
I love sharing some of my most memorable experiences with the best staff I could ask for and campers who always capture a special place in my heart. I can't wait to greet old faces and take on new challenges. Camp is a place where we all can learn from each other and grow constantly.
What is your favorite part about being on staff at Camp Talooli?
I have met some of the kindest, funniest, most reliable and truly genuine people through Camp Talooli. My coworkers are truly my summer family, and I am so grateful to share my love of educating, helping others, and the great outdoors with them.
What are the most important skills you have learned working at summer camp?
Camp has taught me that life is full of teachable moments for not only other people, but for myself. Through my summers at camp, I have learned to appreciate each moment things seem to be going awry, as I know that I can learn something from it. I've learned to value the differences in others, think on my toes, and that it's perfectly okay to be a little silly sometimes! I know I wouldn't have grown to be who I am today without the influence of Camp Talooli.
