Meet the Staff 2016 - Pat "Schmeds"
Meet the Staff 2016!
Camp Talooli has one of the greatest summer staffs around. With nearly 80% of our staff returning each year, our staff members are incredibly skilled, innovative, and enthusiastic about sharing their love of summer camp with Talooli campers. This is a way for us to share just how special each of our counselors, program staff, and leaders are.
Pat "Schmeds" Schmedicke
Position at Camp this summer:
How many years have you been coming to Camp Talooli?
12 years! Pat was a Talooli camper, CIT, and counselor before he started working as a CIT Director.
What is your favorite spot at Camp Talooli?
The edges of the lake. Nothing beats taking a canoe out and just sitting in the shade under the trees, listening to the sounds of laughter and memories being made.
What type of career are you currently pursuing?
I am currently going to school for Psychology. I plan on continuing into graduate school to become a Child Psychologist.
Of all the foods Jeff has made during Tuesday Campfire Cooking, what did you like best?
The best had to be the two years I helped out at Cooking and did some baking with Jeff. He let me teach the kids how to make brownies in the stone oven. Nothing beats brownies that are baked by a fire in a pan that is typically used for panning for gold.
What are you most looking forward to about this summer?
I look forward to so much each year, but like every year I am most looking forward to making memories with campers and just having a positive impact on them.
What do your friends/family just not understand about your love of Camp Talooli?
What they don't get is the reward I get from being at Camp. There is no bigger reward than being able to say I made a kid's summer. Theres not many jobs out there that have that kind of reward to it, and thats what people don't get when I talk about how much I love Camp Talooli.
What is your favorite part about working on staff at Camp Talooli?
My favorite thing about being on staff is watching other staff grow and being a mentor to them. This summer will mark my fifth year on staff and its so amazing to watch the younger staff grow and become more confident in what they do. I like to watch them realize how amazing of a feeling it is to be a camp counselor.
