A hand’s rank is determined by its card value. A hand that has three cards of the same rank is called a “nut,” and a pair of trip sevens is called a “nut” hand. A “trip seven” is a high-ranking hand. In Stud games, a “conductor” is a hand with consecutive rank. In a continuation bet, you bet on the next street after the previous aggressor folded.

After a player receives two hole cards, he or she can make a forced bet (called an ante) or fold out of the hand. If he or she does not make the required bet, he or she can raise his or her bet (called a raise). If the initial bet is too high, the hand is deemed “forced” and the player must fold out of the hand. After the initial wager, five more cards are dealt face-up on the table, called community cards. The fourth community card is known as the “turn” and is used to build the best poker hand.

When a player has more than one card, a poker showdown occurs. The remaining players reveal their hidden cards and evaluate each other’s hands. The player with the best hand wins the pot. Poker hands are made up of five cards, and the best five-card combination of these cards wins the hand. Examples of poker hands include straight flush, four of a kind, and more. The dealer has the last right to shuffle the cards.
